noselfpreservation:

Ryou Bakura had been very sheltered growing up. His father had been an archaeologist before he turned to running the museum a few towns over. His wife and daughter — Ryou’s mother and sister — had been in an accident, however, a very bad one, and they both had passed away a long time ago. Ryou was all his father had now, other than work, and that meant one thing: Ryou had never been aloud to live.

Ryou had never been allowed to leave home, to get his first Pokemon, or do anything else a child nearly half his age should be able to. No, he’d been forced to stay in school, one that neglected classes about Pokemon, and stay until he graduated.

But that didn’t stop him from a chance meeting.

On his way to school, there was an old shack that was decrepit and off of the road a bit. There were vines overgrowing it and it looked, all in all, artfully done (Ryou thought). A few times he could stop and stare at it, and he wanted to include it in part of his miniature world-building (which his father knew about but didn’t stop). The few times he did, he’d notice something strange happening in or around the building. Finally, it showed itself.

It was a small Gastly, and it made its first impression by scaring Ryou three feet into the air.

After that, Ryou stopped by every single day before and after school to talk with it. Sometimes it would listen, and sometimes it would go off and do its own thing while still staying close. What they had was comfortable.

But Ryou had graduated, and he was finally leaving home. He was close to his next birthday and he felt horribly out of place in the world, knowing close to nothing about the creatures living in it. (Yes, he’d borrowed books from the kids at school about it, but one could only learn so much from reading alone.)

"I won’t be back," Ryou said sadly. "At least not for a long time." There was silence as he said this, and no sign of Gastly anywhere. "I’m going to miss you."

But as he left, he found that the ghost phased into sight and had followed him. It never left his side.

He smiled.

Ryou Bakura was finally going to live.

"rainbow, butterflies, Angstshipping"

noselfpreservation:

Life wasn’t exactly butterflies and rainbows.

Ryou would wake up with a wave of paranoia so strong he couldn’t shake it, even when he was reassured of the exact time and date.

Malik would sometimes get so mad he’d break things, and when he did, those awful headaches came back; the ones that meant him.

But together, they dulled each other’s pain. Together, they understood, and together they fought for the better world.

Life wasn’t exactly butterflies and rainbows, but it was getting there.

Animal Crossing

noselfpreservation:

"I finished the museum!" Ryou cried happily, holding his 3DS in front of Jyounouchi’s face.

"What? Jesus, Bakura! How did you—"

"Did you even sleep?" Yuugi cut in, noticing the lines under the other’s eyes.

Ryou chuckled and it sounded suspiciously dark. ”You think I sleep.”

This was me trying to be funny. I figured I’d do a Halloween picture (Ryou’s dressed as a vampire) and is totally planning on biting Yami no Bakura. Bakura’s not having that tonight, especially since Ryou tends to bite hard.

God you can tell I haven’t even touched a pencil is over a week.

I didn’t look up a reference for Jelly! I totally got the character design wrong! I drew preserves instead! I’m so sorry.

…I don’t think I posted this. Was sketched about a month ago.
I never actually finished it like intended. orz MAYBE ONE DAY I WILL.
I angle’s wonky. It’s hard to draw people lying down — which is part of why I did, haha.
I’m sure you’ll recognize what this is.

I know I’ve already posted the flats, but Meg said that she wanted to color the lineart, so here it is for anyone else who wants to, too! It should be 1200 x 1200 pixels large. Enjoy! :D
And now back to pretending I’m working on shading this when I’m actually playing The Sims.

Aaah, finally got the flats AND lineart done. (I have been jumping around with this thing, haha.)
Not sure about the colors.
Also not sure if I’m going to do cel-shading or a more “realistic” one.

LOOK AT ME BEING A BUSY BEE.
And now I’m going to bed.
